Remitra Health

For virtual therapy and psychiatry practices

Telehealth billing that follows every virtual session to your bank.

A virtual session is billed almost like an office visit, except for a couple of codes that insurers are strict about. Get those wrong and the claim is denied, every week. Remitra puts the right place of service on every claim and follows each session to the deposit.

Illustrative example. The place-of-service code comes from your telehealth location automatically, so you don't have to remember it each time.

Does this sound familiar?

Same session. Different codes. Different answer from every insurer.

  • “One insurer wants POS 10, another wants 02, and I can't keep track.”
  • “A whole month of virtual sessions came back denied because of one code.”
  • “I see clients in two states and I'm not sure the billing is right for either.”

Where the money goes

Where telehealth practices lose money.

Virtual sessions add a few billing details that in-person sessions don't have. When they're wrong, every session is wrong the same way.

  1. The wrong place of service.

Claims carry a place-of-service code: 10 when the client is at home, 02 when they're somewhere else. Bill a virtual session as in-office, or use the code a payer doesn't accept, and it's denied.

    How Remitra shows it

Set up a telehealth location once, and its place-of-service code goes on every claim for sessions there. No remembering it each time.

  2. A missing modifier.

Some insurers also want a modifier like 95 for video or 93 for audio-only. Leave it off and the claim comes back.

    How Remitra shows it

Modifiers can be added to each line of the claim, and denials come back with the reason in plain English, so a missing modifier gets fixed once.

  3. Coverage you can't see from a distance.

Virtual clients rarely come to a front desk, so a plan change goes unnoticed until the denials arrive.

    How Remitra shows it

Insurance is checked before every session, not just the first one, so a change shows up before the appointment.

  4. Copays that never get collected.

There's no checkout counter after a video session, so client balances build up quietly.

    How Remitra shows it

Statements and online payment links go out automatically, and clients can pay by card from anywhere.

How it fits your setup

How telehealth billing is set up.

A few things set up once, so every virtual session is billed the same way.

  • Once

    Add a telehealth location

Give it the place-of-service code your payers expect, such as 10 for clients at home.

  • Each session

    Book it at that location

The place-of-service code goes on the claim automatically.

  • When a payer asks

    Add a modifier

Add 95, 93, or whatever a payer requires to the line before the claim goes out.

  • Every week

    Check the denial list

If a payer changes its rules, the denial reason tells you what to fix.

Good to know: payers set their own telehealth rules, and they change. Remitra makes the codes easy to set and shows denial reasons clearly, but it doesn't decide each payer's rules for you, so check each payer's policy.

Questions

Telehealth billing questions.

Should I use place of service 10 or 02?

Generally, 10 means the client was at home and 02 means they were somewhere other than home. Insurers differ, and some want the office place of service with a modifier instead, so check each payer's policy. In Remitra you set it once on a telehealth location.

Does Remitra add the telehealth modifier for me?

You add modifiers like 95 or 93 to the claim line. Remitra doesn't apply payer rules automatically, but it shows denial reasons in plain English so a missing modifier is easy to spot and fix.

Is insurance checked for virtual clients?

Yes. Eligibility is checked before every appointment, in person or virtual.

How do virtual clients pay their share?

Remitra sends statements with online payment links automatically, and clients can pay by card from anywhere.
